These relationships have helped to establish Andrew as a trusted source of information and a subject matter expert in issues related to emergency medical services and data monitoring/sharing. During his time at EMS, Andrew has been able to greater harness the power of data available to EMS, and he has developed some initiatives that not only monitor key metrics within the EMS system, but worked with EMS staff to develop new ways of working with pre-hospital providers to recognize areas of excellence as well as opportunities for improvement.

Within the last year Vanessa has worked in three different positions. She started off the year as a Social Worker II, working with older adults with severe disabilities. As COVID19 forced County agencies to close, Vanessa was one of the few to stay on campus and assist in facilitating the Emergency Senior Pantry. Quickly, her responsibilities grew and she excelled in managing staff, disaster service workers and large shipments essential for keeping the most vulnerable populations in our community fed. She was promoted to run pantry operations while still juggling her caseloads and program deadlines. She works hard because she wants her agency to shine. She does not do the work for the recognition or to be in charge, she is simply a natural leader who leads with integrity.

Early in the pandemic crisis, when our Global Medicine Fellows were asked to return from their international posts, Dr. Flosi engaged them in creating “COVID Rounds” in the hospitals, addressing safety concerns, answering questions, assessing workspaces, and providing critical education needed to keep our patients and our staff safe. As our resident physicians faced increasing pressures and risk, Dr. Flosi rallied the entire medical staff to support them with a meal then coordinated afternoons when he and our Chief of Staff could talk with them, offering education, coaching, and encouragement. Dr. Flosi has also engaged with department leaders, meeting with them and the members of their departments, modeling how to engage with staff during tense times all-the-while supporting and affirming the leaders in these departments.

He oversaw Project Room Key, housing those who were homeless and at high risk for contracting COVID-19 in hotels and was the lead for the Human Services Agency at the Ventura site focused on coordinating client support services. Chris partnered with Whole Person Care, the Health Care Agency and Cal OES, advocating for the individual’s needs and mitigated issues when they presented themselves. His staff managed the East County site which he oversaw from Ventura while also managing the Homeless Services Program. Additionally, Chris led the Pandemic Rental Assistance Program which provided funding for low-income households who were behind on their rent. The program involved coordinating with multiple departments within HSA to create an online application process and payment system to meet the requirements of the program and the needs of the individuals and families.
